Happy October and I'm still ok!

I

President Jimmy Carter turns 100 today. His life may not have much quality to it these days, but millions of us respect him deeply.

I'm alive and have left Black Mountain, I'm a Hurricane Helene Evacuee.

No power, no water, no cell service, being completely cut off from most of my friends and relations.

Disaster from Helene. But I was safe within my little apartment. However I couldn't use my C-PAP or nebulizer to help me breathe, and that was the last straw!

I'll write more about it later.

Right now I've arrived at my cousin John's house in Columbia SC, where he had power returned after 3 days. I'm so grateful to be here.

More to follow.

    1. I'm so happy that I can breathe again. Sort of. Going outside in SC means heat and humidity!

    1. Thanks. Disaster responders are now helping where they can. I'm glad to not be there waiting for water every day, and meals.

  3. Hello, Barb
I am glad you are safe, at least that is good news.
I am sorry to hear and see all the storm damage in your area.
    Take care and stay safe!

    1. The news (which I was finally able to watch Mon. night from safe home in SC) shows some of the damage, and what it was like at flood stage. I didn't realize the north/central part of SC was also affected. My cousin here had no elec. for 3 days, and many places were still closed coming into SC on the highway from NC.

  4. I have been wondering how you fared.Good to know that you are safe and able to plug in. I think if power goes and the C Pap can not be used I will surely die- that is something to consider! I am sorry you could not use your machines- that is scary- not being able to breathe. So hlad you could leave- get help- and stay for a whie with family. That is the best news.

    1. THanks. I would like to go home when there's elec. But I'm not sure I have any food or water...so that may hold me back. Yes, getting to use CPAP and nebulizer here in SC has helped a lot.

  5. So glad to see this. Just read the free press article. Knowing some of the requests for monetary assistance would be scammers I have held off in favor of a reliable recommendation from a trusted source. If you can think of a person or persons in need please post it. Of course getting it to them could be an issue. I could do PayPal. Your thoughts!! MS Nell

    1. Red Cross is on the ground. As well as World Central Kitchen. And United Way. Swannanoa Christian Ministries is right in Black Mountain. So those are 4 non-profits to consider.

  6. You were wise to leave, Barbara, especially when you could not use the devices needed to help you. I was glad to read you had been safe in your apartment, otherwise, and hope you will be able to return soon.

  8. I'm proud to say he was the first president I voted for and I'm glad he outlived the many naysayers who negated what he did and said. I think time has shown the truth that he Is a wonderful man and a great leader and a good soul.

  9. Wow. 3 days without power. When we traveled Australia we near to never had power but that was a holiday and we chose to live this way. In Germany I can not remember one day without power. Yet Ingo got candles and I have a torch right here.
Good you´re in a safe place! The "worst" I had to "endure" was a fire in the cellar and being outside for hours in -9C/16F. I hope you can return home soon AND enjoy your time where you found safety.
