Monday murals from Old Fort NC

I never go over to read the historic marker, and know little about the arrow monument.

It stands in front of the Old Fort Train Station. I don't know if anything happens inside, and the freight trains which go through here probably don't stop.

A recent effort by blacks came about after the "Black Lives Matter" movement. I think the Old Fort blacks wanted to save an old black school.

Limericks
(quoted from a daily newsletter, having nothing to do with Old Fort)
by Gary Johnson

There was an old lady of Queens
Who survived on wieners and beans.
Wearing Army surplus,
Riding the bus,
And stealing from vending machines.

A misanthrope living in Raleigh
Believed human friendship was folly
But he did get it on
With a trumpeter swan
And was fond of a miniature collie.

An old fellow lived in St. James
Whose parents were in silver frames
And looked down from the wall
And if he swore at all,
Their pictures burst into flames.

An old fellow up in Two Harbors
No longer bothered with barbers.
He let his hair grow
Ten feet or so
And wore it on overhead arbors.

Final quote for today:

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little. -Edmund Burke, statesman and writer (12 Jan 1729-1797)

    1. They sort of came my way, and I liked interspersing them with the murals.

  6. Loved the limericks. I asked my husband to write one for our Christmas card but he wrote prose instead. Didn't have a limerick in him this time.

    1. Some days are limerick days, some are prose days. I understand.
