Going somewhere

You recently saw some of the efforts of my son, Russ, in packing my pottery for a move that may happen in a few months.

Friends came over to winnow through dishes, serving items, baking things, clothing, linens etc. this week. The thrift store will have lots of old stuff coming its way soon. Of course I'll still have all I need for daily living, as well as furniture, about half of which won't be going with me.

In order to go somewhere with a drier climate and less triggers for my coughs from Bronchiectasis, I plan to move out to the southwest corner of Colorado this summer, when an apartment comes available. It's also closer to my youngest son's home.

My plans depend on so many things that are out of my control.

So I'm hoping to be going somewhere, but much can happen between now and then.

But having my heart stress test Friday this week, as well as talking with my pulmonologist, has given me some changes in my breathing needs. We shall see how this affects my plans. The best laid plans of mice and men....and Barbara too!

Sharing with Sepia Saturday this week!

  1. Moving isn’t easy, but you seem to have it in hand.

    1. I'll have to publish soon what happened yesterday, but I woke up today thinking how much I can love myself...this ole body is full of surprises.

    1. Thanks...me too. There may be some kinks in the process. Who said it was just floating down the stream, merrily merrily merrily!

  4. Moves are such a great time to cull the things we really don't need, but they are a lot of work. It sounds like you will be moving from one beautiful place to another. Good luck with your plans. I hope they work out.

  6. Changing altitude? Is that better or worse for your breathing? When we moved out here we sold our city nearly 150 year old house to a developer who was going to tear it down. The plumbing and electrical was ancient and was being eaten by termites. So instead of getting rid of a lot of stuff, emptying the house we just abandoned it all.

    1. The pulmonologist said I should try 4-6 weeks to see if I can acclimate to higher altitude and thinner air. I can’t do that. No way to take a long vacation. At least at this point.

  7. Age certainly doesn't make anything simpler, does it?

    1. Ain’t that the truth! Seems once I’ve raised a family and several careers are behind me, as well as 12 years perusing my dream of making pottery, life should be easy. Laughing here!

    2. I always thought for some ridiculously ignorant reason that by this stage in life, I would have things figured out, life would be a bit of an easier coast. Haha! Guess again, oh you fool.

  8. It will work out for you in the end the way it's supposed to. That's my thinking so I don't get stressed. For me, it has worked out pretty good.

  9. As my favorite saying on life & its idiosyncrasies goes - Life is what happens while you're making other plans. I hope your move goes smoothly & according to plan. Moving from a larger to a smaller place is an emotional challenge. We did it 3 1/2 years ago & it was hard letting some things go. Fortunately most of the favorite furnishings & etc. we couldn't bring with us wound up in our children's homes so I can still see them now & then. :))

    1. I’ve already downsized, but just sitting in the same place almost 10 years, I’ve accumulated a lot - especially the pottery that didn’t sell, or I didn’t want to sell. Thus 10 boxes of pots not including dishes!

  13. There's standard and often used saying my family: change is as good as a rest.
I hope your change of location will make life better for you and easier for your family and I am sure you will find a lot to discover.

  14. Oh, I hope the change will help your breathing! I wonder if paring down your possessions gives you something of a feeling of freedom.

  15. I can't add to the many helpful comments you've already received, Barb. Since you have shared so many stories of your ancestors' journey's and your own adventures I know this kind of relocation will be familiar. We always hope the grass will be greener in a new place but we never forget the attachments we made to the old places. I'm told the sun still rises and sets over the Rockies too. I look forward to seeing your photos and reading your stories about Colorado and the West.
