No, not floral scents.
But I just came into the room, and a few hours earlier I'd lightly watered them all. I try to do it a couple of times a week.
There was a wet earthy smell. So delightful.
All the plants were pulled from windowsills, while curtains and blinds were closed at night against the cold (7 degrees Saturday night) but sunshine Sunday morning meant opening to the light! Then back closed up that night too. But Monday there was sunshine, none on Tuesday or Wednesday, and Thursday was rain/snow to start the day.
The other branch also is full of blooms.
Three pink Kalanchoe plants are in the bigger pot...but the ones that have been behind the curtains have turned white. So I just rotated the planter, to see if the sun gives them pinkness.
Sadly, none of the flowers I'm growing have scents. With my allergies, that's probably for the best.

In case you don't already read Jay Kuo's newsletters..."The Status Kuo." Here's a very moving piece he published to Substack yesterday about the Shadow Congressional Hearings about ICE.

I'm with you on scented flowers...especially hyacinths, lilies and daffodils!!
ReplyDeleteBut the scent of earth after rain..or just watering....petrichor..is heavenly
Petrichor, the scent after rain has hit a dusty earth especially, is just wonderful, like a walk in the woods.
Delete...my Kalanchoes have become foliage plants, they don't want to flower!
ReplyDeleteWarmth and maybe even don't water them for a while might let them think about blooming...but hey, you're the nursery guy!!
DeleteI always like seeing your flowers. I think it has been awhile.
ReplyDeleteYes, to have a whole lot of pics at once especially...glad you like it.
DeleteYour blossoms are most impressive! What a lovely thing to have in times of such cold and grayness.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice especially when I have nothing but the blinds and trees outside the window...often can't even see my favorite mountain ridge in the distance...and then close to home are these sweet little live colorful beings!
DeleteYou are aware and active, and you also have a talent for living among flowers and finding life's Beauty. Thank you so much for your visits and comments, which I appreciate very much. Much. My husband continues to decline in hospice care with his level seven dementia. Fortunately his sweetness shines forth and he's getting good care. I'm wishing you many happy healthy moments this weekend. Aloha friend!
ReplyDeleteSending you soothing energies as you deal with the stressors of your husband's dementia. I suggested using some familiar music (sing if you can) which touches a part of the brain that stays active longer than others (and I believe it starts having sensations earlier too).
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are all looking beautiful. I am happy to have some sunny days.
Take care, enjoy your day!
I was so relieved that it got warm enough for roads to be mostly clear and dry when coming home from the Dr. in Asheville today. Getting there at 10 o'clock took brooming the snow off the car, and driving on main roads only, where I went slowly while some interstate race drivers zoomed around me.
DeleteYou hit the nail on the head- sometimes it's not the sweet smell of flowers that is uplifting - I love the smells of rainforests - which is strong and pungent, mixed with humidity. #FloralFridayFoto
ReplyDeleteNow give me a antique rose with a scent, if that's the correct term. I will happily bury my nose in its middle. I don't know about all the other decaying scents of rainforests...as mold already is a no-no for my sensitivities.
DeleteThe kalanchoes and orchids are lovely. And I agree about the smell of dirt!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I admit I am surprised nobody commented on the Congressional interviews with ICE victims and their families. I was impresses some Democrats were actually taking investigative action.
DeleteSo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGlad to share!
DeleteThis post finally appeared on my feed. You have wonderful flowers. Just now I have greenery only. But I love the smell of the damp earth when I water the plants.
