I'm supporting (and recommending) "The Marginalian," an e-zine, or newsletter which comes to my email twice a week about art, poetry, people, love, humanity, animals...just life. I loved reading this children's book several years ago, which is included in this article by Maria Popova.

Saint Lucy- a favorite ,holding her eye balls on a stick- sometimes in a bowl. Gotta say Catholics did have a market on imaginative and gory saint lives. The church of Saint Geremia in Venice holds Lucy in a glass case. I have gone there often with hope that my eyesight would be protected. It didn't work but seeing a 500+ year old corpse all decked out is worth the trip.
ReplyDeleteI agree ,The Marginalian is a treat in my e-box every time!
The dragons that you have shared here are also a treat. Thank you for taking us on a winged journey.
Happy Santa Lucia day, careful that your hair does not catch fire!
Thanks for bringing St. Lucy to life, or grounding my imaginary celebration to the realities of her life/death/miracles. I hadn't heard of her remains being on display in Venice. Never have worn real fire on my head...but then sometimes I think I breathe fire!
DeleteIt was pleasant to see your wings — great idea. The rest too. Happy Saturday to you.
ReplyDeleteThank you AC. I do tend to go on and on!
DeleteI've been reading Popova for years. Good to see her boosted here. Happy St Lucia! My Swedish/American friend used to make her three young daughters come into her bedroom early on st Lucia Day bringing cakes and singing. They were annoyed every year that she banned crowns of lighted candles!
ReplyDeleteOh I do love things with wings and I feel so fortunate that we have so many of them here. As I was reading that post and enjoying the photos, I was hearing a woodpecker having its way with an old branch. And I love watching the Ospreys at the coast. Birds truly are an amazing and varied and intelligent part of the creatures on this earth.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be wonderful to see a dragon? Well, a nice one.
Hello Barb,
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of the birds, I love the reflection images. The dragons are cool.
Pretty tree! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Lovely series of wing photos, I love the eagle the best.
ReplyDelete...Barbara, these are great.
ReplyDeleteWonderful pics! Especially the dragons!
ReplyDeleteYes, I am a dragon lover. The good ones of course.
DeleteGorgeous photos of birds and other things that fly. Dragons are so fascinating. They bring feelings of all kinds of imaginary fears and delights. Sending you wishes of a beautiful week to come.
ReplyDeleteA great selection!
