It's September!

Somehow this beginning of the month is harder for me to write about.

I've been procrastinating, and now it's here.

Don't know why, because Autumn is always my favorite month...fresh crisp air and leaf colors...kids going back to school, a new year in a way.

I've never felt it was the dying time...but maybe it is. So perhaps I should be embracing the dying of things. After all it happens to all of us, and even more often to our various appliances. I'll think of the term for that soon. Planned obsolescence.

Mt. Pisgah, Blue Ridge Parkway 2013

The cycle of life. That's a term which we can all relate to. Think of the song Circle of Life in The Lion King.

And a bit more artistic, I found this source of all of Van Gogh's works, on Open Culture.

Very timely when considering how many of us become somewhat (or more) depressed with wintertime greys and low light levels in the northern hemisphere. Seeing such beauty expressed on canvas by a man who clearly had a rather depressing life, gives a bit of joy to me.

OK rabbit rabbit. I'm all for increasing the amount of good luck in everyone's lives!

Baby bunnies raised by my son's family in CT several years ago.

And Happy Labor Day...celebrate as you choose.

  1. Hares and Rabbits to you, Barb. That's a sweet bunny photo..
Here in southern RI my toes are crossed for one of our long, warm autumn. Morning glories and impatience blooming in November have happened.. Enjoying the season but prepping for the dark to come.

    1. School was a high point in my life, every time I got the chance to attend. I could be a student forever! Glad I never became a teacher however!

  3. I haven't embraced this month yet. August went by much too fast.

  4. I was just thinking about how so very few people actually know the reason for Labor Day, much less celebrate the spirit of it, the meaning of it.
Your remark about our own planned obsolescence is interesting and so true. There are people whom I know (quite well!) who seem to believe that if they keep going at ten thousand miles an hour they simply will not die. I suppose that's a philosophy which works for them. I think I'd rather stroll into the inevitable, taking note of how things look from this angle. We are all so different.

    1. That's so true about missing out on the reason behind Labor Day. I do like the idea of strolling along and watching what inevitably happens. It's always interesting to also read about "life-watchers" blogs.

  8. There is a dying occurring in nature, and yet as a teacher, back to school was also the beginning of the year.

    1. And most of the places I've lived (except Florida of course) would have cooler temperatures with lower humidity in the fall. My earliest times of breathing better!
