Beaches

Whether with friends or family, I've always been drawn to beaches (or water that's available to play in of any kind).

Winter beach with good friend at sunset, Meher Baba Center, Myrtle Beach, SC 2011
The minute my car drives over an inland waterway, the windows are rolled down to smell the sea air, which often is tidal flats with salt and fishy smell.  I love it. (Note: All along the Atlantic coast in the US, there's an Inland Waterway, with many many draw bridges for sail boats to pass under.)

Another sunset, my granddaughters wade in the inland waterway
A couple of years ago, all three of my sons, and 5 out of 6 of my grandchildren, met with one daughter-in-law and one daughter-partner in Florida.  The Atlantic was in one of her kind and smooth moods.  All the better for the littlest children.

Kate and Michelle in background while Russ and Marty pose for a "selfie."

Florida beaches are inundated with condos
And fortunately Michelle's mom loaned hers to her family for the center of our festivities.
Somebody got the guys matching shirts...Russ, Will, Tai and Marty at the pool

Come over to see other posts referring to older photos of beaches at Sepia Saturday this week HERE!  I was lazy and didn't look deep into my archives this time.  I'm sure my childhood photos of beaches will come out some other time.

  1. What a wonderful collection of family photos - who cares if they're not old! Love the guys in matching shirts. And the one of the two (granddaughters?) from the side against the water is just lovely.

  2. The mountains of North Carolina have many beautiful aspects of landscape but not the aroma of salt air and the aspect of an endless horizon. I love our coastal beaches for the same reasons.

  5. Happy memories of your get-togethers! These days I much prefer calm water to the surf, I must admit, and the water in that fourth shot looks lovely.

  6. Future family history photos from you this week - good to have the stories that go with them.

  9. I've never been a lover of getting in the sea. I am beginning to like it better watching my grandson surfing.
We have a very small collection of beach photos but your excellent set has me looking for them again,

  10. Hi fellow Sepians, La Nightingale, Postcardy, Mike, Boundforoz, Jo, Jackie, Jinksy, violet and Bob...and the next ones who stop by. It's great to hear from you...and if I haven't gone over to see yours and make comments, I will soon (as long as you don't have those awful word verifications to copy, in which case I'll not comment). I've enjoyed hearing how so many of you aren't beach goers. I always figured there were folks like you, and it's fine with me, so there's more room for me on limited shorelines! I do love living in the mountains, and don't visit shore 5 hours away as often as when it was 1 hour drive. But I hope to have salt water on my back again this summer somehow.

  12. I'm not a big fan of the beach, maybe because the water isn't beautiful here in Virginia. But the beach in Siesta Key, Florida could make me a believer! We took a vacation there and I really enjoyed it.
