Blinding migraines

I'm having one now, and have had at least 4 others in the last 24 hours.
The shimmer starts in the center field of sight...then expands till it is a circular formation, not quite complete circle, more of a big C shape.  Then it's over.  For a while.

No pain, most of the time.

Just super sensitivity to bright light most times following, for a couple of hours at least.

This time I'm trying to just keep on doing things.  Like taking pictures and trusting the camera and lights will do the job.  It worked yesterday.  I joked that I was the blind photographer.  At least when I shift my eyes back and forth I can see everything adequately.

It's really hard to read however.  It slows me down a lot, or I jsut miss half the words if I'm doing the normal left to right along each line of type.

Speaking of type...I'm having trouble getting used to the idea that kids aren't being taught cursive writing (or reading) in public schools any more.  My goddess!  That's horrible.  SOme kids already are asking grandparents to please print on their birthday cards, since they can't read the long-hand.

I sure hope all my grandkids get that training.

Add the computers.  Even cut back on sports...and maybe art, but for goodness sake, how can you skip the ability to read the original versions of our histories?  All the literature that was penned, the letters, the journals?  It's unbelievable.

  1. Hope you feel better by now Barbara. My mother used to have migraines and now I have a daughter-in-law who gets them frequently.

Ahhh, that expensive corn, we gave to a family who sat down next to us. They saw us open the bag and as we hadn't dipped our fingers into it but poured a few of them onto our hands, we felt they wouldn't mind if we asked if they would like it. They did and didn't seem to mind the different taste.

  2. Almost forgot, about the handwriting. It's sad that schools don't teach their students proper handwriting. I don't get it frankly.

  3. Barbara, I get migraines, too, pretty much like the occular one you described. Sometimes the Imitrex wards off the pain, sometimes not, either way I'm still blind for a while. BUT, I've never had 4 in a 24 hour space of time. Is that something you should see your doctor for? I'm sending you lots of healing thoughts!

Like you, I'm horrified that cursive is not being taught in schools anymore. Things have changed so much from when I was young I'm beginning to feel like I came from another century. Oh wait...I did!

    Blessings,

    Victoria

  4. Victoria...I have a doc appointment tomorrow...since having the latest migraine yesterday. I take Blood Pressure meds which had them under control for a few years, only would have one every 6 mos or so. Now I think I need a different BP med. We shall see. Thanks for comment!

  5. Denise, thanks for your comments...the cursive deprived children will certainly not have a gift...but then those who no longer learn a foreign language or Latin have lost something as well. Just think of the funny things computer translations do!
